The Minister in charge of First Baptist Church, Gwagwalada Abuja, Reverend Deji Oyelami has urged religious groups not to relent in praying for improved security and economic development of Nigeria.

Reverend Deji Oyelami made the appeal in Abuja while speaking with Aso Mirror Newspaper on the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.

He attributed corruption, lack of transparency and patriotism for some leaders as some of the challenges hindering growth and development in Nigeria hence the need for the intervention of the faithfuls through prayers towards repositioning the country for better.

According to him, the country must go back to God to enable it overcome current security and economic challenges.

In his words “It is quiet unfortunate that after 64 years of independence, Nigeria is still where it is today due to unpatriotic attitude of some of our leaders who are bent mismanaging the nation’s resources for their selfish gains instead of channeling our God’s giving human and natural resources to the overall growth and development of Nigeria thereby improving the economic wellbeing of its citizens”.

Reverend Oyelami stressed the need for the Federal Government to review some its economic policies and come up with initiatives to alleviate impact of the current economic reality on Nigerians.

The Clergyman pointed out that many Nigerians are finding it difficult to make ends meet hence the need for the Government to be considerate in its earlier decision making.

“I must confess to you That Nigerians are presently finding things difficult in the area of food, education, housing among others and this is largely due to the issue of fuel subsidy removal that was pronounced last year because as we speak now if you go to the market, prices of food items are on the increase due to the issue of high cost of transportation arising from increase in pump price of petroleum” He emphasized

Reverend Oyelami who admonished Nigerians not to loose hope in the country, stressed the need for political office holders to always fulfill their campaign promises to the people.
