Nigeria’s Food Insecurity Worsens: Red Cross Seeks Urgent Action.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, has retated that food insecurity poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s peace and stability.
According to a statement by NRCS Coordinator Communications and Advocacy Adviser Chima Nwankwo, the NRCS President Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga explains that with over 31.
According to him, Conflict, inflation, and economic challenges are exacerbating the issue, with staple food prices expected to triple by October 2024.
Adeaga, said the Famine Early Warning System reports a 70% increase in severe acute malnutrition among children between September 2023 and now.
To combat this crisis, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has launched an Emergency Appeal of N2.5 billion to enhance livelihood, health, nutrition, and WASH services among vulnerable persons across the country over the next 18 months.
“We are hosting their first-ever Annual Fundraising Gala Night on September 28, 2024, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, themed “Keeping Humanity Alive.”
“The event will bring together leaders and influencers from diverse sectors to make a real difference. Corporate sponsors, including Guaranty Trust Holding Company PLC, will ensure all proceeds go directly to the Hunger Crisis Appeal and WASH rehabilitation projects, supporting those in need.
