Red Cross charges youths to be agents of positive change in society

The 18th International Youth Camp of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, has ended with a charge to young people to leverage their demographic advantage, mobilize their energies, and drive transformative change in their communities and beyond.

Speaking at the end of a week long youth camp at the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, training School, in Agbor Delta State, the National Youth Chairman of NRCS, Ameen Abdul urged young people to recognize their potential as agents of change and to harness their collective strength to address societal challenges.

Abdul who is also the Chairman Africa Youth Network of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, IFRC, emphasized the importance of volunteerism, community service, and humanitarian work in building a better future.

He encouraged the participants to embrace the values of the Red Cross movement, including humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, and universality as these values are essential for building a more just, equitable, and peaceful world.

In his remarks, NRCS National Youth Adviser, Sidney Osawaru praised the participants for their enthusiasm and dedication to the Red Cross movement.

“You have shown that you are committed to creating a better world.”Remember, the skills and knowledge you have gained here are not just for personal benefit, but for the benefit of your communities and society at large.”

He encouraged the participants to stay connected and continue to work together to address the challenges facing their communities.

Osawaru also thanked the organizers, facilitators, and volunteers who made the camp a success.

The 18th International Youth Camp of the NRCS which brought together young people from across Nigeria and beyond. With other participants from Kenyan Red Cross, Uganda Red Cross, Mozambique Red Cross an Seychelles Red cross Societies.

The youth camp featured a range of activities, including First Aid Simulations, First Aid Practicals, Climate Change Sessions, Leadership Development, Skills Acquisition, Artificial intelligence and Entrepreneurship lectures, fitness sessions amongst others.

The 18th International Youth Camp of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) united young individuals from Nigeria and other countries, including representatives from the Kenyan Red Cross, Ugandan Red Cross, Mozambique Red Cross, and Seychelles Red Cross Societies.

The camp featured a diverse range of activities, including simulations, practical sessions, and lectures on topics such as first aid, climate change, leadership development, skills acquisition, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship, as well as fitness sessions, providing a unique opportunity for young people to come together, share ideas, and develop new skills.
