The Sokoto State Police Command has announced a curfew in Sabon Birni town, located within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area, to manage unrest stemming from the recent murder of the district head of Gatawa.

The decision to impose the curfew comes in response to escalating protests by local youth demanding justice for the slain official.

The authorities are taking these measures to restore order and prevent further violence in the affected area.

The command’s spokesman, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, stated that the movement in the area is restricted between 6 am and 6 pm until further notice, with the aim of restoring law and order in the area.

It was reported that hundreds of youths flooded some major roads in the community holding sticks and setting bonfires.

Sources in the community mentioned that the youths had made an unsuccessful attempt to set the residences of some prominent politicians in the area on fire but security operatives intervened before any damage occurred.

The protesters also burned down the local government Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a courtroom.

Additionally, they broke into the local government store and destroyed fertilizers.
