Me and others !
By Jarlath Uche Opara
I came across the story of King Edward Viii’ abdication of his throne for the love of his life Wallis Simpson. She was an American married socialites whose love enthralled Edward with a crazy obsession.
When his father died, as the first son, the kingship fell on him. As a king, his relationship with Wallis was an aberration which was frowned at.
Even when Wallis divorced her husband, Edward was not allowed to marry her. It became a choice between the throne and Wallis. He chose Wallis over the throne to the dismay of people, causing the kingship to shift from him to his younger brother Albert who was the father of Princess Elizabeth who later as the first child of her father King George Vi became the Queen after his demise.
One single choice and decision of one person, changed the destinies of many. The many people that would have become Kings and Queens from his lineage aborted and eternally halted by that choice and decision.
It is about you! But certainly not about you. It is about what you want and desire! But surely not all about it. It is about your comfort and ease of life! But it isn’t all that there is to it. It is about you! But in that YOU are many factors and considerations. In that YOU are the destinies of many. So, it may be your choice and interest, the ripple effects of such may truncate other’s and make them miss their destiny path.
Born alone, but our life is better lived having others in mind. Our choice and inalienable right, yes! But the right and comfort of others should equally be considered.
My right to walk away, but more human also to think how my actions would affect the next person.
Life is better lived in consideration for others for the life we live and the choices we make impart on others greatly.
Born alone, but our lives should be lived for others. Think about it, no good life is lived in selfishness, rather in selflessness.
The bee does not lick the honey it produces. The best of life is lived for others. The life of Jesus, speaks volumes here!
*Rivers do not drink their own water, trees do not eat their own fruits; sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is. Life is good when you are happy; but much better when others are happy because of you*. Pope Francis
.
Me and others! Is a life in its sublime and pristine mode. If you ask me,the best approach to life; for our life according to Maya Angelo is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
