Citizens defy Curfew in Kano, celebrate NNPP victory

The supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Kano residents trooped out early hours Monday, March 20, to celebrate the victory of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate in the March 18 Govenorship election in the state.
This is despite the announcement of a dawn-to-dusk curfew in Kano on Monday, by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje reportedly to avoid a breakdown of law and order following INEC’s declaration of NNPP’s candidate as the winner of the governorship election.
The Information and Internal Affairs Commissioner, Muhammad Garba, made the announcement in a statement on Monday.
He said the decision was to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense situation.
The Commissioner called on people in the state to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone, or a group bent on causing trouble.
INEC declared Abba Yusuf of the NNPP as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Kano, defeating the Deputy Governor Nasir Gawuna at the poll.
The results have generated tension in Kano, prompting the government’s proactive measures to avert chaos.
