INEC Announces Death of Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced with profound sorrow the passing of Mr. Olaniyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State.

Mr. Ijalaye died on Monday, August 20, 2024, shortly after attending a regular quarterly meeting of the Commission in Abuja.

A statement from INEC, signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, detailed Mr.

Ijalaye’s background and contributions. Born in 1958 in Owo, Ondo State, Ijalaye earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.
B) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1982 and was called to the Nigerian Bar (B.
L) in 1983. He furthered his education with a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M) from the same institution in 1995.

Mr. Ijalaye took up his position as Ogun State REC on February 23, 2022. According to the statement, he was known for his integrity, hard work, and conscientiousness.

INEC has extended its deepest condolences to Mr. Ijalaye’s immediate family and is praying for his eternal rest.
