Amid the ongoing economic crisis affecting Nigeria, similar to challenges faced by other nations globally, the country is grappling with severe hunger and inflation, worsening the standard of living daily.

This has contributed to the current widespread protests.

Doyin Diya, a Media Consultant, Security Analyst, and Embedded Journalist with the UN/AU Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia, made this appeal in a recent release.

With extensive experience as a journalist and security correspondent, Diya has observed the devastating impact of conflicts on innocent civilians, particularly vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly, the sick, and persons with disabilities.
These crises often lead to severe starvation, epidemic outbreaks, and displacement of people.

Despite the harsh economic conditions and perceived government neglect, Nigerian youths have continued to excel in various fields, both domestically and internationally. It is crucial for the government to explore effective methods to engage and address the concerns of the youth.

Diya suggests that entertainment can play a significant role in addressing these concerns. During the #ENDSARS protest, for example, the inclusion of music, dance, and drama, coupled with voluntary donations of food and other essentials, helped maintain a peaceful atmosphere. However, the protest eventually turned violent due to alleged infiltration by unknown individuals.

Given the current situation, it is essential for all parties to pursue peace and exercise caution. The government and law enforcement should act with honor and consideration to prevent further escalation. With Nigeria’s population exceeding 200 million, the nation cannot afford another civil conflict or catastrophic violence.

Diya emphasizes that the peace and prosperity of Nigeria depend on collective effort. Both the government and the people must avoid allowing emotions or pride to lead to unwarranted violence, which could result in needless loss of lives and property.

“I believe peace is possible. Let there be peace in Nigeria. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
