As moves for the constitution of the 10th Senate intensifies, Ohanaeze Media Forum, the umbrella body of Igbo journalists in the Print and Electronic Media, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the Senate Presidency to the South East for the sake of equity, justice and fairness.

Speaking at a Press Conference in Lagos, the chairman of the Forum, Peter Anosike, said that Nigeria was founded on a tripod of North, East and West.

Anosike said that since the Presidency has gone to the West and Vice-President to the North, justice demands that the position of Senate President should come to the South East.

He further said that after looking at the credentials of the Senators ewho emerged from the South East, Osita Izunaso was found to be the most qualified for the position of Senate President.

According to him, Izunaso was not only a high ranking Senator, but has the charisma of a leader.

Anosike pointed out that Izunaso is humble, cool-headed and a very good team player.

“As moves are being made to constitute the 10th Senate, we, the members of Ohanaeze Media Forum, call for the zoning of the 10th President of the Senate to South East for the sake of equity, justice and fairness.

“Again, since the President-elect and the Vice President-elect are Muslims, justice and equity also demands that the President of the Senate should be a Christian, in orde to give Christians in the country a sense of belonging. Going further, after carefully looking at the credentials of the Senators elected from the South East, we discovered that Senator Osita Izunaso is most qualified for this position.

“Senator Izunaso has no controversy surrounding his person. He is a very humble, compassionate, a team player and a go-getter. As a Mass Communicator and Public Relations expert, he has the charisma, as well as the capacity to bring people from different leanings and ideologies together to achieve a common goal,” Nwanosike said.

In his contribution, the Secretary of the Forum, Ngozi Emedoluibe, said that one of the reasons why Nigerian Senate is not doing enough was lack of quality leadership.

Emedoluibe expressed confidence that with Izunaso as Senate President, there would be cohesion which would lead to quick passage of bills.

He also said that since Izunaso is compassionate, he would give the 10th Senate a human face.
