High Cost Of Goods: FCCPC: Moves Against Cartel In Open Markets Nationwide

To put an to arbitrary Increase in the prices of goods in the country, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC, says plans are underway to dissolve Market Unions and Associations nationwide.

The Acting Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Dr Adamu Abdullahi who stated this at a forum in Abuja, said the move is also to guard against extorting consumers and strip them of their hard earned money.

According to the Acting Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, surveys carried out across various markets in the country clearly prove that those illegal association do not grant access to other marketers who are not members from coming to sell their goods and render services to consumers hence the need for urgent action to nip such act in the bud.

Dr Abdullahi explained that FCCPC has put necessary legal framework to tackle and combat such market cartels hiding under the umbrella of association to control prices of goods and services in the markets in country

He said FCCPC is also battled ready to ensure a total compliance on food security especially those supermarkets who still sell expired food items to unsuspecting consumers nationwide.

The Acting Executive Vice Chairman stressed that the Commission is ready to carry out its mandate of advising the Federal Government by working out modalities to ensuring that all goods in market space are fit for consumption

Dr Abdullahi maintained that after several market survey and several meetings with Local Government Chairmen and Market Associations, the Commission cautioned them to desist from compelling members to sell at their own stipulated prices or face the full wrath of the law

The FCCPC, Boss reiterates the Commission’s unwavering commitment towards regulating the excess goods supply chain into the market by some unpatriotic Nigerians hence creating an enabling environment for all traders.

Dr. Abdullahi called for effective collaboration of all stakeholders in the drive to rid the markets of all illegal practices in line with global best practices
