SSANU shot down FULafia over unpaid salaries
By David Odama
The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) chapter.
Tuesday shot down the institution as they joined their counterparts in public universities across the country in a protest over non-payment of their four months withheld salaries.
Speaking during the protest at the university in Lafia, Chairman of the association, Daniel Dajen, explained that the protest followed a directive from the national leadership of the association.
According to him, the protest became inevitable due to lack of commitment by the Federal Government to address their withheld salaries which were long overdue.
The SSANU Chairman explained that the association had been in a series of meetings with representatives of the federal government on the need to meet up their demands including the payment of their four months withheld salaries but to no avail.
Dajen maintained that university workers especially the non-academic and senior staff had exhibited a high sense of patience and understanding to ensure amicable resolution despite the environmental economic hardship they have been subjected to due as a result of non-payment of their salaries.
He called on the FG to commence payment of their withheld four months’ salaries immediately to avert further breakdown of industrial harmony in all campuses of public universities across the country.
The university workers converged on the sports complex of the institution in large numbers carrying leaves, displaying placards with different comments, and marching to all the faculties and departments of the school chanting solidarity songs.
