PSC Announces New Appointments and Promotions

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of AIG Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), representing the North East Geopolitical zone in the Police Management Team.

AIG Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar, formerly in charge of Zone 14 Katsina, has been appointed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), replacing DIG Habu Sani.

DIG Sani recently retired as DIG Force Intelligence Bureau and represented the Zone.

This decision was made at an extraordinary Management Meeting of the Commission, presided over by the Chairman, Dr.

Solomon Arase, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police.

According to a statement from PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission also approved the promotion of 122 other senior Police Officers, including 10 Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General; 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police to substantive Commissioners and 36 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners.


Furthermore, 61 Chief Superintendents of Police were elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The promotion process involved a compulsory interactive promotion interview, where the candidates had to demonstrate their commitment and understanding of the challenges faced in modern policing.

Dr. Arase emphasized the importance of effective policing and internal security management in the face of evolving crime dynamics, urging the officers to be dedicated to their duty of securing the nation and protecting lives and property.

Among the officers promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General are Ahmed Ammani, Mohammed Dankwara Adamu, Gumel Mohammed Usaini, Hamzat Adebola Ayinde, Okuoma Idegwu Basil, Achinyan Zachary’s Fera, Baba Zango Ibrahim, Mohammed Isyaku, and Margaret Agebe Ochalla.

Several Deputy Commissioners were also promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police, including Monday Agbonika, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Edem Ita Selong, among others.

The list of promoted officers has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation and further necessary action.

The recent appointments and promotions signify the Nigerian Police Service Commission’s commitment to ensuring a capable leadership team equipped to tackle the challenges of modern policing and maintaining internal security across the nation.
