NASS TO INTERVENE IN LABOUR DISPUTE

The National Assembly is intervening in the crisis between the federal government and labour unions to prevent a planned strike scheduled for Monday June 3, 2024.

In a joint statement, spokesperson for the Senate
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, and his counterpart in the house of representatives, Akin Rotimi,
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen are leading the mediation effort, engaging in dialogue with both parties to find a mutually acceptable solution.

According to the statement, the decision to intervene comes after negotiations between the federal government and labour unions reached a deadlock over a new national minimum wage and the recent hike in electricity tariffs.

The statement says National Assembly’s recognizes that both parties have a valid reasons for thier positions and is committed to finding a mutually acceptable resolutions in the best interest of the country
