NCC Halts License Issuance in Three Key Categories Temporarily
By Iyojo Ameh
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced a temporary suspension of license issuance in three significant categories.
Interconnect Exchange, Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), and Value Added Service Aggregator licenses will not be issued temporarily, according to a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs at the NCC.
The decision, authorized under the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, underscores the NCC’s commitment to ensuring fair competition and sustainable growth in the telecommunications sector.
Effective May 17, 2024, new applications for licenses in these categories will not be accepted.
The temporary suspension provides the NCC with the opportunity to conduct a thorough review of several key areas within these categories, including market saturation and current dynamics.
However, the NCC emphasizes that pending applications will still be considered based on their merits.
Stakeholders and interested parties are urged to direct any inquiries or clarifications regarding the suspension to licensing@ncc.gov.ng.
The NCC reassures the public of its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and investment in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
