WIKE DECLARES ABUJA WEEK FOR COMMISSIONING OF PROJECTS

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved a 9-day timeline, designated as FCT Week, for the inauguration of several completed projects in the FCT.

This significant event is scheduled to commence on May 27th, 2024, with the launch of the commercial operation of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit.

Minister Wike made this announcement during his final inspection of some ongoing projects that are set for commissioning.

He expressed his satisfaction with the progress and completion of these projects, commending the contractors for adhering to their deadlines and delivering quality work.

“The approval from Mr.

President means that starting from the 27th of this month, we will begin the inauguration of various projects,” Wike stated. “Particularly on the 27th, we believe the President will flag off the commercial operation of the Abuja Metro line. From what we have seen during our inspections, I am confident we are ready to proceed.”

Projects Scheduled for Inauguration During FCT Week Include:

Abuja Rail Mass Transit: Launching the commercial operations of the rail system, marking a significant advancement in public transportation within the FCT.

Official Residence of the Vice President: A modern and secure residence for the Vice President, showcasing the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX): This project extends from the Villa Roundabout to Ring Road 1 and includes four interchanges, designed to improve traffic flow and connectivity.

B6 and B12 Circle Road: Key road infrastructure aimed at enhancing urban mobility and reducing congestion in the capital city.

Minister Wike highlighted that the FCT Administration has diligently fulfilled its commitments by ensuring adequate funding for these projects. He emphasized the readiness of the FCT to commission these initiatives, reflecting the administration’s dedication to urban development and improved public services.

“We are pleased with the contractors for keeping their promise of completing the projects within schedule,” Wike remarked. “The FCT Administration has equally upheld its part by providing the necessary funding, ensuring these projects reach fruition. We are now ready to commission them, marking a new chapter of development in the FCT.”

The commencement of the FCT Week and the scheduled inaugurations underline the administration’s focus on enhancing infrastructure and delivering on its promises to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
