By David Okpashi Odama
Former Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr Mike Omeri has congratulated the Nigerian workers as they mark this years workers day urging them to keep hope alife despite the economic and Environmental hardship.
Dr Omeri in a congratulatory message personally signed and made available to Journalists in Nasarawa to commemorate the May Day celebration, applauded the Nigerian workers for their their resilient, perseverance, patriotism especially in the face of the economic hardship where cost of living has gone beyond the reach of the common man.
According to NOA DG who is also a frontline member of the opposition People’s Democratic party ( PDP) said Nigerian were suffering from unneccessary hardship because of bad governance, greed and quest for materialism.
” Expectedly, the ripple consequence of imported and man made factors have impacted negatively on the citizenry thereby stoking prices of basic commodities and services through the roof tops of Nigerians. I salute the organised Labour championed by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their relentless struggle to balance the perennial interests of workers with government policies on wage distribution and other socio-economic cum political variables of Nigeria’s political economy.
While urging Nigerians to keep hope alife, remain committed to the course of making the country better, the veteran journalist also urged the citizens to shum negative tendencies, pray ceaselessly for God intervention by bringing committed leaders that would take the country out of its present quagma.
“The Nation will definitely be blessed to have leaders that will strengthen the arms of strategic institutions of government that are responsible for managing and repositioning the integrity of Nigeria to close the hideous gaps that has institutionalized corruption and debilitating duplicity which undermine the economy of our nation.
“Impactful as PDP is ready to drive and heal the ominous malady of our economy, i urge that the minimum wage upgrade of Nigerian workers at all levels be faithfully and care fully implemented in order that they may receive a true living wage that can guarantee the agreeable life of Nigerians. This if done will signpost honour, empathy and commitment of the present administration for social justice and equity.
The ex- NOA DG who applauded the bold steps taking by the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to increase the minimum wage of the state civil servants to N70,000 per month urged the federal and other States including the private sector to emulate the feat of the PDP governor.
“On this note, I acknowledge with the highest respect the bold steps of His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki-the Governor of Edo State for the payment of N70,000.00 minimum wage to Edo workers which represent the Hallmark of PDP for Nigerians. This feat should be the irreducible minimum for other States, the private sector and other employers across Nigeria”
“I join other well-meaning Nigerians in applauding the exemplary patriotism and spartan resilience of the Nigerian worker especially in recent times when the cost of living for the common man in our nation is alarming due largely to systemic haemorrhage and economic sabotage dubiously perpetrated by a few vested interests that tampering with the workings of our nation’s foreign exchange machinery.
