In Bauchi State, authorities have apprehended a 23-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old mentally challenged boy. Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the police command, revealed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The suspect, identified as Sanusi Umar, was reportedly captured by operatives from Operation Restore Peace in the state.

According to Wakil, Umar enticed the victim with a N30 sweet and persuaded him to accompany him to a secluded area behind the AIB filling station along Kofar Ran under the pretext of needing to defecate.

“After the defecation, the suspect asked the victim to undress his trousers and grabbed the victim from behind, leading to him having carnal knowledge,” Wakil stated.

The victim, in a distressed state, sought help from the filling station manager, disclosing the assault perpetrated by the suspect. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect, originally from Jingino village in the Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, had been hawking garden eggs at the AIB filling station in Bauchi for about two years.

Furthermore, it was uncovered that the suspect exploited the vulnerable mental condition of the victim to carry out the heinous act.

Wakil confirmed that both the victim and the suspect were taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where various tests were conducted to assess the victim’s health status.
