Paul Akintelure, an aspirant for the Ondo governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has passed away.

The spokesperson for the Ondo APC, Alex Kalejaye, confirmed the sad news during a telephone conversation with journalists early Tuesday.

Although the cause of his death remains unknown, it comes shortly after Akintelure, a medical doctor turned politician, expressed concerns about threats to his life.

“Initially, I hoped these incidents would diminish over time, yet unfortunately, they have intensified, posing a serious threat to my life,” stated his spokesman, Oladapo Akintelure, in a statement issued on March 21.

Akintelure, who previously ran as the deputy governorship candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2012 alongside Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was known for his contributions to the political landscape, particularly within the APC.

Born in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Akintelure was a respected private medical practitioner based in Lagos.

His political journey also included a bid for the Ondo South senatorial election under the ACN.

The APC acknowledged Akintelure’s significant role in the party’s growth and the advancement of democracy in Nigeria.

Tributes have poured in for the late Akintelure, with the Ondo APC expressing deep sadness over his passing. Engr. Ade Adetimehin, the State Chairman, described Akintelure as a personal friend and lamented the shock of the news.

The organisation announced the suspension of its activities for the week as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
