Hardship: FG and Dangote Foundation Donate Food Aid to Kano State indigenous
By Our Correspondent
In a concerted effort to address the prevailing hardship in Kano State, the Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Dangote Foundation, has extended a lifeline by donating essential food items.
The gesture includes a generous contribution of 100 trucks of rice, 44 trucks of sorghum, and four trucks of maize, aimed at supporting the state government’s efforts in catering to the needs of the less privileged.
Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity, confirmed this development, highlighting the additional support from the Dangote Foundation, which contributed 120,000 10kg bags of rice to the cause.
However, amidst these commendable efforts, concerns have been raised regarding the effectiveness of the ongoing Ramadan feeding program in the state.
The Governor, Abba Yusuf expressed disappointment during a surprise visit to some feeding centers in Kano metropolis, noting discrepancies between the intended beneficiaries and the actual number being served.
Despite the target of feeding 1,000 individuals daily at each of the 80 designated feeding centers across eight Local Government Areas, observations revealed that only 450 registered beneficiaries were being catered to at the visited centers.
In response to the observed shortcomings, Governor Yusuf has initiated immediate actions, including the reorganization of the feeding committee overseeing the program and launching an investigation into the entire exercise.
