The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, has declared that the 2025 budget, if fully implemented, has the potential to revolutionize Nigeria. Speaking during the debate on the second reading of the 2025 budget estimate in the Senate, Senator Jibrin described the proposal as a comprehensive plan designed to restore peace and rebuild prosperity across the nation.

Commending President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership, Senator Jibrin said, “A leader must possess the political will to drive meaningful change, and this budget demonstrates such resolve.

It is aptly titled the ‘Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity.
’”

Senator Jibrin also emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing insecurity, with the defense and security sectors receiving the highest allocation of N4.91 trillion.

“Peace is fundamental for economic stability and societal progress. By prioritizing security, the government is demonstrating its readiness to confront and overcome the challenges of insecurity head-on,” he stated.

The Deputy Senate President noted that a secure environment would pave the way for economic growth, particularly through investments in critical infrastructure such as roads, water, and electricity. These investments, he argued, are key to stimulating private sector activity and job creation.

“When you provide essential infrastructure, businesses thrive, jobs are created, revenues increase, and taxes are paid. This creates a virtuous cycle of development, allowing the government to reinvest in social services,” he explained.

Senator Jibrin also highlighted the budget’s focus on human capital development, with N3.52 trillion allocated to education and related sectors. He described human capital as the cornerstone of economic productivity and underscored the importance of healthcare in ensuring a robust workforce.

“Human capital is the number one production factor globally. For it to be effective, adequate healthcare services must be provided. This budget takes a holistic approach to addressing these critical areas,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President called on lawmakers and citizens to work together to ensure the budget’s successful implementation. He urged Senate committees to provide rigorous oversight and hold implementing agencies accountable.

“This budget is one of the best we have ever produced. However, it is not enough to pass it. We must all come together to ensure it is implemented effectively. If we do, Nigeria will truly become a land of prosperity and plenty,” Senator Jibrin concluded.

The 2025 budget, which prioritizes peace, infrastructure, human capital, and healthcare, is seen as a blueprint for Nigeria’s economic transformation. It is currently undergoing legislative review for approval.
