2023 Elections: Yobe Declares 18 Days Holiday for Schools

The Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has declared an 18 Days holiday for schools across the state ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

In a letter signed by the Director, Schools management, Bukar M.

Modu explained that the holiday would enable students and teachers to exercise their civic right in the forthcoming general elections.

The letter titled “Approved Yobe State School Calendar for 2022 – 2023 Academic Session”, read, “Reference to the 2023 Academic Calendar, I wish to convey the approval of the Honourable Commissioner for 18 Days holidays from 23rd February, 2023 to 13th March, 2023 to enable students and teachers to exercise their civic rights in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Statement added that the 18 Days break is in consideration of the distance of some students, especially exchange program students. However, 10 days out of the 18 Days given will be slashed from the Third Term holiday and thus the holiday is 8 days only.

“To recover the 10 days, students are to break for the Third Term holiday from Tuesday 15th August instead of Friday 4th August, 2023 as earlier scheduled in the Calendar.

“While the Honourable Commissioner is wishing all students and teachers a hitch free election, students have been cautioned not to be used as thugs for the benefits of anybody. Yobe state Government is committed to their welfare and shall continue to provide qualitative education for the betterment of their future.
