The mummified remains of a man known as “Stoneman Willie” are finally poised for a dignified burial after an astonishing 128 years of public display at a funeral home in Pennsylvania, USA.
Stoneman Willie’s unusual journey into eternity began with a life shrouded in mystery. Historical records reveal that he was an alcoholic who met his tragic end due to kidney failure while incarcerated in a local jail.
His arrest had been prompted by pickpocketing activities on November 19, 1895. This era, steeped in the evolution of embalming techniques, saw him inadvertently preserved in a mummified state by an experimenting mortician, a revelation disclosed by Auman’s Funeral Home.
For over a century, Stoneman Willie has fascinated and perplexed onlookers, clad in a perfectly preserved suit complete with a dapper bow tie. His casket, adorned with a crimson sash gracefully draped across his chest, has been the focal point of curiosity. His hair and teeth have remained remarkably intact, while his skin has taken on the appearance of fine leather, offering an eerie yet captivating glimpse into a bygone era.
The enigma surrounding Stoneman Willie deepened as he had provided authorities with a false identity at the time of his arrest. This misleading information had confounded efforts by local officials to contact potential relatives.
However, recent investigative efforts employing historical records and forensic research have at long last unveiled the real identity of Stoneman Willie. His true name will be inscribed on the base of his tombstone as the final chapter in this enduring mystery unfolds, culminating in his burial on October 7th.
